Meet Julie Hurt, Modern Bride

Julie was a wedding and event designer for 19 years, specializing in floral design, who always had a flair for style and fashion, so she decided to start her bridal business by redesigning existing dresses and then eventually designing them from sketch to production when founding Modern Bride.

Business Details

What areas do you serve?

We serve our brides locally in Arizona. However, we have brides that come to us from all over the country, and a huge percentage of our brides are not locals.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I just started to start this business after having been in the Wedding and Event design business for 19 years. After working closely with my brides, I realize that something was missing in the bridal or wedding dress industry most bridal stores carry designer brands, and those designer brands don’t always offer a lot of customization. I wanted to be different and offer brides the ability to customize their perfect wedding dress.

What's the coolest thing about owning your business?

The coolest thing would definitely be having the final say on everything! Making sure that your business is a true reflection of what you want it to be, and of course, asking other business owners, their opinions, but ultimately knowing that you’re gonna do what you wanna do.

What challenges have you had to overcome?

My biggest challenge is social media, lol. It’s just something that I know is necessary and can be so powerful for your business. Because I’ve been in the Wedding world for over 20 years, I’m still getting used to social media, collaborations, photo shoots, and podcasts!!

What advice could you offer to entrepreneurs who are thinking about starting a business like yours?

My advice would be to just start! The hardest part is starting, and once you are working in your passion and your purpose, you’ll be glad that you started!!
