S6E8: A 3-Month Engagement and a Thanksgiving Wedding

When your work schedule isn't flexible, holiday weekends become a very viable option for planning your wedding.

Getting married over a holiday comes with unique challenges and benefits.

If you're seeing holiday commercials on TV, you can assume that a venue that is open to the general public (like a country club, hotel, or restaurant) will have holiday decor. Sometimes it's just twinkle lights, while other times you'll find nutcrackers or a tree.

Guest: Carrie Murray, BRA Network

This week, we’re dishing about things like…

  • Getting engaged to a younger man

  • How planning a wedding in three months is possible

  • What to consider when planning a wedding during a holiday weekend

  • Why Carrie and Sean decided not to have wedding parties

…and a whoooolllle bunch of laughs!

Background

How did you two meet?

We met at a Halloween party. I was dressed as a devil and he was a doctor. Halloween has since been a very special day for us. We were even featured in Apartment Therapy Magazine because we love to decorate a lot for the holiday, more than Christmas!

What was the first thing you noticed about your partner?

He was sitting by himself in a corner, but dressed as a doctor. LOL

Tell us about the proposal!

I wish this was a better story. We were living together and I went to bed early and after I came out from brushing my teeth, he was on one knee with a ring. He thought your shoe size was the same as your ring size, so my ring was an 8.5 and my ring size is actually a 7. I tapped up that ring and wore it the very next day.

Wedding Details & Planning

Wedding Date: November 26, 2005

Wedding Location: Lakeside Country Club

Approx. number of guests who attended your wedding: 45

What were your top 5 favorite moments from your wedding?

  1. Falling on my ass while dancing

  2. Almost being run over by a golf cart driven by Jack Nicholson

  3. The decor

  4. The party where a wedding took place

  5. Saying I Do!

What, if anything, would you change about the wedding planning process?

I would have given myself more time and hired someone to do it for me.

What, if anything, would you change about your wedding day?

The weather, it was soooooo windy

Did you participate in any family, cultural, or religious traditions in your wedding?

I had both of my parents walk me down the aisle.

What was the planning process like? Did you run into any obstacles? How did you overcome them?

The venue did most of the planning and since we had less than 4 months, we really just had to be flexible. Also NOT having a wedding party made the whole thing SO much better.

What was the most important decision you made about your wedding?

Not having bridesmaids.

Married Life

What’s the best thing that’s happened in your lives since getting married?

Having kids! Buying a house.

What is your favorite thing about your significant other? And, if there *is* a least fave thing, feel free to share that, but let's keep it light. ;)

My husband doesn't ever say, "No" ..... even when he should. LOL
