Details…

How long have you been in business?

April 2022

What areas do you serve?

DC, Virginia, and Maryland

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I completed my degree in chemistry and thought I wanted to go to medical school. However, I quickly realized medical school was not going to fit my goals for my family or quince my artistic spirit. My soul thrives on creativity and entrepreneurialism. Starting my own business allowed me to have control over my time, be with my children, and have endless opportunities to create beautiful and meaningful event experiences for my clients. I love what I am doing, and I love my clients. This doesn't feel like work.

What's the coolest thing about owning your own business?

I get to attend parties regularly! Who doesn’t like parties?!

What is a topic that you feel you could offer a unique perspective on?

Creating a unique bar experience, you can't get elsewhere.

What challenges have you had to overcome as a business owner?

Learning that I can't do it all myself. Luckily, I have some amazing staff members who can I trust and go above and beyond at every event as if it was their own business. I feel that is rare these days, so I am truly thankful for all of them.

The daily life of a business owner…

What is daily life like in your household?

Chaotic but fun! We have three children, ages 18, 15, and 10. They are homeschooled. Our days are filled with doing school, attending chess tournaments for our 15-year-old, painting (I am a watercolorist), taking care of our many pets, to include a 16-year-old tarantula and planning for events. My 18 year-old daughter helps me a lot with the food aspect of the business. She designs all of our grazing tables and does a fantastic job. Gabriel, my 15 year-old helps with a lot of the logistics of the business. His goal is to attend law school. Home schooling has allowed the children to experience real world scenarios, and each of them are surprisingly very independent. They each have shares in the business.

Are there any challenges or obstacles that you've had to overcome?

Stigma from family and friends because I chose to do something different than my original plan of pursuing a career in medicine or research. They don't share the same excitement I have for the business and instead of encouragement, they always say, "It's still not too late to go to medical school." I chose what makes me happy. I am still serving people, just in a different way. I am home with my children; I enjoy what I do, and my chemistry skills and passion for healthy living is reflected in my drink and food menu. A lot of human connection happens over food and drink. It brings me great satisfaction, to create a bar experience that nurtures meaningful connections.
